MIUI ROM Beta #5 – Preview

If you’ve rooted your phone, then you’ve most likely heard of the MIUI ROM.  If you haven’t, then it’s about time you found out about it!

MIUI is a custom ROM built by a team of developers in China.  Unlike most other ROMs, MIUI not only gives a complete UI overhaul to Android (iOS like in some cases) but it also introduces a massive range of new features.

The newest version of MIUI is due for release on 31st December, and the video below shows a preview of what’s to come:

Feature List From the Video

  1. iPhone style homescreen, with widget support
  2. Custom themes to change the full design of the ROM
  3. Quick toggle for most settings in the notification screen
  4. Fancy animations
  5. New music player application with lyrics support
  6. Lockscreen music controls
  7. Unlimited homescreens
  8. Rearrange the application drawer
  9. Uninstall applications via the application drawer
  10. FAST
  11. iPhone style contacts app
  12. T9 Dialing
  13. Call Recording (needs loudspeaker to be turned on)

FAQs

  1. The ROM in the video is in Chinese, will the ROM be Chinese too?
Although all official ROMs are released in Chinese, you can download language packs (including English) from http://miui-dev.com to translate the full ROM into your native language.  If you know what you’re doing, you could actually translate it yourself!
  2. What phones can I get MIUI on?
MIUI is built for the HTC Desire, Google Nexus One and Motorola Milestone, however it has been ported to other devices such as the HTC Evo
  3. Which version of Android is this ROM based on?
MIUI ROMs use the latest Froyo release, but I would expect it to be upgraded to Gingerbread at some point

That’s all cool and nice, but we don’t even get the information on which official android version is this based? Guess this is for the cool kids out there.

  • MrBrightside

Hey, I’ve added another FAQ at the bottom to answer your question. Gingerbread ROMs still aren’t too stable, but I’d guess the MIUI team will start work on a Gingerbread version if they haven’t already.

  • is this open source?

  • where can get this new miui downloaded???…cn some one get me d link….i couldnt find it on miui-dev.com!!

“1.33.2003 is compatible with the kernel, ( but stock MTD map is not )

if you ‘fake’ your SPL in recovery you will be fine

you can install CM6 with 10.95.3000 and 0.95.3000, but its a pain as you have to use a kernel which is compiled to be smaller ( I compile the BT as modules )

1.33.2003 is a good option, the risk of a brick is greatly reduced as it is compatible with 1.x and 2.x radios
    ( NOTE its not compatible with 3.x radios , so 32a’s/Rogers’ ( EBI1 ) must still use 1.33.2005 )”

i dont underatand this but seem to have fixed the status 7 error in other forums.

    still need some help

It hasn’t got anything to do with toggling the signature verification via the recovery your using does it?

If not try this site http://www.miui-au.com/ for the Miui rom instead.

    I hope it helps : )

I tried to change rom’s zip file name to update.zip, disabled signature verification, chose apply sdcard:update.zip instead of choosing zip from sdcard but still got the status 7 error. I have clockworkMod v2.5.0.7

    MrBrightside, please enlighten me.

    Happy new year guys!

  • Now why would any sane android user want to make his android phone look like an iPhone style homescreen 😀

  • of course like your web site but you have to check the spelling on quite a few
of your posts. Several of them are rife with spelling
problems and I in finding it very troublesome to tell
the reality nevertheless I will surely come again again.
